DAY 48 JULY 12 MARIBOR, SLOVENIA

Mia and Vid yuk it up....

And don't forget Dushanka, you gave me my first paycheck....circa 1997ANRO METALS.

Let's take a little tour around Maribor dear cousin.
Our town has 114,000 people and hosts the Univ. of Maribor- established in 1975.  And now there is a medical school here!  We are 2 1/2 hrs to Vienna,  4 to Budapest, 2 1/2 to the Adriatic Sea...not a bad location either.

This stunning small town looks like a great place to raise a family and doctor it up...that's the beautiful Drava River.  Quite a backdrop for many activities...

POHORJE Mountains
Let's take a ride up to the mountains...yep the ones you see right now.  It's only a 10 min drive from the house.  Great for skiing, spa, restaurants and if you're nuts mountain biking down the mountain.  Yeeeeow!

Come on Dushanka...let's head up the  mountain.

Is that Bubba with his hands in his pockets at the ticket booth???

I knew my  cousin Dushanka would appreciate a libation at the top of the mountain...

Come on down Dushanka, they have white wine.

And now for something my cousin Dushanka would like...spa ville at Hotel Habakuk...yes I need to create some harmony with myself....after a steady diet of cevaps and schlivo and homemade wine....

Deco 1980's....Pleep couldn't resist banging a few out on the white Liberace style piano...

Unlike his cousin, Voikan is not a Olympic drinker...what the heck is a Cockta???

Near the bottom of the mountain we stop in a large grocery store, Tus, and pop in to one of Voikan's business ventures.  Bravo cousin and bravo Bona!  We look forward to seeing the second on the next visit.

We pop over to the  Serbian Orthodox Church, relatively new.  Hey, isn't that a gas station?  Ah, those clever Serbs gas up and pray, all in one fell swoop.   Prior to WWII 97% of the town was Catholic but under Tito's rule most became quite secular which still exists today....57% are Catholic and the affiliation is dropping annually, as elsewhere in Europe.  The second religious group is "Islam"- 2.4% and 3rd is Serb Orthodox- 2.2%.  I had read a la Eurobarometer Poll- that 26% do not believe in any spirit, God or life force.  Interesting what is happening throughout Europe.  And to think 2 Popes have visited this small town.,..

Our darling chef jumped right on the cevaps and wings for some of Voikans buddies who were stopping over...

We loved what one of his buddies "invented" and now has a warehouse full of "magic water"...and wait there's more!  For only $29.95 you can be the proud owner of this special body and refil it with your regular tap water which will convert into the "magic water".  Lot's of teasing and copious amounts of wine were imbibed...pictures not pretty.  A yia yia yia ya!  A great bunch of pals Voikan has....Dushanka distributor in Naples, taking orders for Magic Water right now.
