DAY 60 JULY 24 MARABELLA, SPAIN

MORE MARABELLA

Located on the Mediterranean Sea between Maaga and the Gibraltar Strait, in the foothills of the Sierra Blanca.  Is this southern Spain's answer to St. Tropez?

The population is about 140,000 and one of the most important tours cities of the Costa del Sol-known for being a playground for the rich and famous.  Marabella has a cosmopolitan attitude with Andalusian traditions and hospitality- for sure!

With it's warm climate and tourist infrastructure and 27 miles of coastline-lot's of high-end tourist resorts abound.  Remember ol'Sean Connery was Marabella's international spokesman-ah shaken not stirred is right.   Indeed, the Golden Mile is evident.

Views of the mountains and sea from every angle...talk about development.  The building boon was phenomenal in it's day and is obvious today. The real estate bust must have hit this place like a hurricane.  Let alone bankruptcy fits, corruption with the officials (Mayor in jail- did they learn from a Chicagoan?).  Lots of financial machinations are part of the history.  Today "Marbellan urbanism" is synonymous in  Spain with government corruption....some say as many as 30,000 illegal homes were built in the town.  Building per mists wee issued in exchange for envelopes of cash....50 municipal officials and business exec's were convicted and sentenced.  Don't forget about the hundreds of poly built apartments and homes, many sold to expatriate British and Irish retirees - now facing demotion as hazardous.  Yikes!

In the meantime, it still looks pretty good to us and Annie wants to head down to the beach...

Wait up Bubs, I'm right behind you.
Lovin the "board walk"...first stop Cappuchino.

Bubs is all eyes as he has heard there may be some nudity and some such..
Nah to the nudes....but  some very cleaver sand castles.

That's one heck of a rendition of a train track buddy...
Where is that darn Monkey!  He said he would meet me at the Jumping Gym???

Oh, I see him down on the beach....making friends and asking the ladies if they needed a little more sun tan lotion.  Such a gentlemen, always willing to help those in need.

then down to the Puerto Banus Marina- a veritable posers paradise- for some cruising fun....he is such a ladies man.   His reputation preceded him....
Wanting to pick up the "helping" theme Pleep has going...I offered to give Bub a back rub a la Andalusian method.  All I saw were his heels and back side running toward the hotel....hmmm.
Would def. come back for a longer visit....after some serious laser therapy.  Besides Boca wants to see the Palace of King Fahd...next trip for sure.  I can see why my daughter loves it here.  Ole!
